Bij de stad Niscemi op Sicilië zijn ongeveer duizend inwoners geëvacueerd vanwege een aardverschuiving bij een klif. Omdat er nog meer regenval wordt verwacht, dreigen meerdere woningen de diepte in te storten.

In Niscemi wonen zo'n 30.000 mensen. Door dagenlange zware regenval kwam de grond aan de rand van de stad in beweging.

Drie wijken zijn halsoverkop ontruimd. Ongeveer 300 gezinnen die hun huis uit moesten, hebben tijdelijk onderdak gevonden in een sporthal.
