Japanese Overdesign: Karimoku's Gorgeous Oak Coat Hanger
This exquisitely-crafted Oak coat hanger is by Japanese furniture manufacturer Karimoku. They've applied the same level of attention to it as one of their chair legs.
The result is an almost absurdly overdesigned, overcrafted object that I badly want to touch. In particular I wish there was a close-up shot of the joint; the transition to the "neck" of the hanger appears to have been masterfully executed.
"This hanger, characterized by its straight lines that slope down to both edges, was achieved through repeated testing and adjustment of the appropriate hanger angle, as well as the thickness and curvature of the wood. We sought an angle that would gently hold clothes without them slipping off, without causing damage due to angularity.
